Wolfdog Ownership

Wolfdog ownership is not a decision to be taken lightly. Inviting a wolfdog to share your home and become a part of your family is a lifelong commitment, and when done correctly with love and education, can be a tremendously rewarding and spiritual relationship.

It is important to note that, prior to making the decision to bring a wolfdog into your home, you MUST check the wolfdog ownership laws in your state AND county. Even if wolfdogs are legal in your state, that law may be superseded by township and county ordinances. Many states refuse to allow wolfdogs because of the lack of an approved rabies vaccine. There is no evidence that the current vaccines used for dogs areineffective in wolves, and most vets will vaccinate a wolfdog for rabies, listed as the dogbreed mix (i.e. husky mix).

Warning:
Declaring your dog as being part wolf to the wrong people can be a FATAL ERROR. In many parts of the United States, wolfdogs are classified as "wild" or "game" animals, "inherently dangerous to humans," and are prohibited. Some states have strict licensing requirements. Because of the rabies vaccine issue, in many places any animal BELIEVED to be a wolfdog will be DESTROYED if it should ever happen to bite.
